5yo's intense interests making it hard to play with others

My 5 (nearly 6) year old gets really interested in some very specific topics (eg: Pharoahs, transport systems etc), which is lovely in many ways and we try to explore them with him by reading books, visiting museums etc. But a problem arises when it comes to playing with others as he wants them to act out very specific parts and do very specific things to make the game/story 'accurate' - even as an adult it's quite hard to either get right, so it's understandable that other children don't tend to want to play this way (he's yet to come across someone with the exact same interest). He gets very frustrated when others don't join in, which I think also comes from a place of really wanting a friend but not understanding that it's not fun for someone else to have such little freedom within the game. We've tried to chat this through with him lots and demonstrate through play but so far it remains a big struggle.

Just wondering if anyone has had similar experience and can offer any advice.

I've not had similar experience but that does seem to be unusual behaviour. Have you asked his Teacher how he's getting on socially at school and if she thinks that getting SENCO to observe him would be useful?
