"bits"???
DD1 is 3, recently potty trained and is currently obsessed with weeing standing up like Daddy (trying to, at any rate!). I've explained to her that only boys can do that because they have willies (or bellies, as she calls them!) but I'm not sure how to refer to her bits! Anyone got any suggestions that wouldn't sound too obscene coming from the mouth of a 3 year old? Not convinced at the thought of her referring to her fanjo in the presence of FIL!!

I thought fanny would be preferable to 'bits', which was the only alternative we came up with, as at least its a unique word and we're giving the 'bits' a name.

vagina

my DD is 4

time4tea · 21/03/2008 20:49

round our way, fanny is just fine. it is clear enough for anyone to know what is meant, and like willy (which no-one has a problem with) it is based on a slightly old-fashioned name. I talked about this a lot with lots of friends, it was sad how many of us grew up thinking there was "nothing" or our genitals not referred to at all.

theboob · 21/03/2008 20:51

my dd calls her's loulou

pinkspottywellies · 21/03/2008 21:00

Having read several of these threads on MN before I think I'll tell dd that it's her vulva but that people usually call it something else (don't know what yet - foo-foo?) in the same way as stomach/tummy, feet/tootsies, etc

My SIL was told that it was her Susan feel sorry for any girls called Susan in her class! MIL thought breasts were called 'partemies' because when she asked her mum what they were she said 'they're just part of me'!

RIELOVESBACARDI · 21/03/2008 21:06

Flynnie · 21/03/2008 22:01

Toilet parts...does for both dds or ds

Flynnie · 21/03/2008 22:03

pinkspottywellies 'part of me'.

halogen · 21/03/2008 22:05

Foo foo here. I might introduce vagina and vulva when my daughter has a cat's chance in hell of being able to pronounce them (she's only 18 months old).

tensmum · 21/03/2008 22:10

ladybits.

paddyclamp · 21/03/2008 23:23

Fanny or Ladygarden

cheesesarnie · 21/03/2008 23:24

bits.dont know why just do

No19 · 22/03/2008 08:52

I don't know why, I have always thought of fanny as a slightly aggressive or vulgar word. Perhaps it has a different and more common usage in the UK - seems that way, as others have also suggested it. Much harder for a girl.

joannawood · 22/03/2008 08:54

foo foo

biglips · 22/03/2008 08:55

bum bum - dd chose that word since she was before 2

3NAB · 22/03/2008 17:41

MrsBAdger I have lived all my life calling it a vagina, I am sure my DD will not suffer by doing the same.
