I’ve created a monster that wants to be assisted to walk EVERYWHERE

My little one is just a year old, and she’s been pulling herself up and cruising since 9 months. Very recently she’s pulling us to help her walk, and very innocently we helped her walk by letting her hold our fingers.

well, she’s super super speedy walking holding our fingers, but the problem is she wants to do it every waking moment and WAILS if she doesn’t get her way. It’s become quite difficult for us, because even out she refuses to go in her sling or pram and wants to walk everywhere.

im really worried I’ve delayed development because she’s relying on us so heavily and since wanting to walk so much, won’t even do much as just stand without us holding her.

did anyone else go through this?

Both my DDs went through this phase – it's either hard on the back or hard on the ears, but I don't think it delayed their development any. They both took their first independent steps at 11 months.

I definitely think you dont need to be concerned about delaying development, sounds like she is doing great!

i can empathise with the wailing when she doesnt get her way as my 1 year old DS is crying when you take something away or say no to something ALL DAY!

He took his first independent steps when i gave him a book and told him to take it to his granny, this way his hands were both occupied and he couldn’t hold on to anything. You could try putting a toy in each hand and giving her a objective ie. Taking it to someone or putting it in something. I think they just take some time finding their balance and confidence! Also do you have something that she can push and walk with? He sometimes stood up against a chair and pushed it forward, but a type of trainer walker that is heavy with wheels if i am making sense

My baby also did this. Then we dropped to holding the fingers on one hand and then one day he just walked off. That phase was brutal though. By far my least favourite phase in all of parenthood!

I thought nothing would be worse then a colicky newborn but this bit might actually be on par - I’m still not getting any sleep and but instead of being able to sit all day I get to break my back walking around a toddler whilst absolutely exhausted 😭

I know. We used to go somewhere morning and afternoon so I was at least resting on the drive there and back x4!

I know this was from a couple of years ago, can you remember when this stopped/how long this phase lasted?
