a measure of a childs ability to pick up a language??

the reason i ask is this, DS's school have picked the top 4 in the class to study spanish after school. Now DS wasnt picked and yes i am a bit peeved, only because it would be nice for him to have had the choice. He does well in all his classes he doesnt struggle and when I asked him if he would have liked to have done it he said "well yes, my friend X is doing it" (not the best reason in the world i agree but hey)

I just question thier selection process, I suppose they have to draw the line somewhere but at the same time i figured that intelligence isnt a measure of how well you can pick up a language...or am i wrong??

I seriously am not a pushy mum btw, i just thought it a shame that not all the children in the class were given the same opportunity

thankyou for that piffle.........i think that determination and wanting to do some thing speaks volumes.......more than any intelligence

Now Im not saying that DS is in any way determined but what right has anyone to stop a child from doing something that he expresses an interest in.

Now as his mum ok i stepped in and pushed for him to do this, but only because I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to at least realise that eithe they like sometinhg or they dont

exactly. As if learning a European and international language is some privilege!!!!
Ds1 is high achiever and on g and t register but gives him no more rights to access that sort of thing IMO

If I had not said anything I would always have wondered whether I should have.....

We have spent some time this weekend learning his colours.......he picked them up straight away, with minimum fuss, usually homework is a chore
