Can developmental/speech regressions come out of nowhere?

Hi, I have a 20 month old daughter who as far as I know is developing as she should. She eats and sleeps well, has lots of words and is starting to join them together eg more potato, all done etc. She waves, claps, points and is generally very happy.

However the last few days she has been a bit quiet and sad. Really distressed going to nursery, clingy and just something seems ‘off’. She is less chatty. I’ve goggled and scared myself silly by reading stories of children who were developing and communicating normally until 2ish then suddenly regressed and lost all their words and skills.

Does anyone have any experience of this and did it sound like what’s happening to my daughter? Thanks

Could she just have a bug @MarySuePleasant? Maybe her back teeth are coming through?

Does she perk up if you give her a dose of painkillers?

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto she is teething at the moment, think it’s her back ones as all the rest are in and she is really dribbly and red cheeked. Could that be it??

Sounds like it definitely could be!

Have you tried her with some Ibruprofen? She might want ice-lollies, cucumber or a cool milk shake to help with her teeth. You can do homemade if you're feeling guilty about the sugar Wink
