Hi all

Just to preface this as a non bragging post. I'm just curious if anyone has any experience of basically what the title says? Since around 22m my toddler has been able identify most of the alphabet (not just recite/sing but can pick up a magnet or foam type letter and say the name). He also knows a few shapes, colours and numbers. Googling gives so many answers but my conclusion is this is quite advanced and I guess I'm just wondering if this is so?

Just to add he is developing normally in all areas, perhaps a bit behind in gross motor skills because of hypermobility but otherwise no concerns 😊

I would say yes, it is advanced, but only time will tell if it's an early sign of things to come or simply an early interest.

DD1 has done various similar things, and our approach was to go with her interests, but treat all interests equally, trying not to be more positive about wanting to play with letters than wanting to splash in puddles, but equally, not put her off things just because she was 'too young'.
