So my DS has never said love you. Even when he was a baby and they go through that phase of saying it loads. Which I always thought was a but strange but never thought much of it. He’s now 5 starting school and loads of other kids say to their parents love you bye etc in the morning but we barely get a bye before he leaves. He also HATES the word sorry like with a vengeance, if he hurts his brother by accident or otherwise it’s a battle to get him to apologise - at school he has no problem apologising. Back to the love you bit - when we say love you to him he stops looking into your eyes and will look off at a different part of your face then change the subject immediately, the whole thing makes his very uncomfortable and I don’t know why. He also won’t say miss you or anything resembling a ‘loved’ emotion to people but will to things like I love playing on the iPad or watching superheros.
I asked him why he doesn’t want to say it and he just said he doesn’t know. Has anyone had experience, is it a sign for anything?
Me and his dad split up when he was around a year old - it might be relevant.
