baby used to sleeping in our bed.. how to get her in cot

Our baby is currently 3.5 months old. We sort of gave up and let her sleep in our bed after a few weeks old. Essentially she can go on the boob and fall back to sleep, she has a good day night routine now. We can pick up when she is fidgety and means she can feed when hungry before she starts crying.

Whenever we pick her gently up and pop her into her bedside cot to try and get her to sleep in it, she pretty much every time stirs, fidgets straight away which results in her waking up and having a tantrum then comes back into our bed to get her back off.

What's the best approach to get us out of our own mess we have created? Just be persistent and keep popping her back in the cot and eventually she will be too tired to wake up? We risk her getting too tired though and having a meltdown.

Should we be bothering doing this yet even? Like is she too young to learn and should we not waste our time until she's six months for example? Any advice or suggestions greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Have you tried sleeping with the cot sheets for a couple of nights so the cot smells the same as the bed?
