Has anyone's child bypassed crawling completely?

Ds2 has started pulling up to furniture, in the last couple of days, very excited all round but he hasn't crawled at all!

Is this normal? We would stick him on his tummy and the extremities would wave a bit but nothing touched the ground!

Now I doubt he will bother.

Anyone else had a non crawler? He's nearly 8 months btw.

HI there, My DD never crawled or bum shuffled or anything else for that matter. She just pulled herself up on furniture at 7 months and started walking at 10 months.

ds2 never crawled - he sat up and used to tuck one leg underneath him then use the other and both his hands to propel himself along. I always thought he looked like a Moroccan beggar! He didn't walk till 14 months. He's 12 now and very sporty.

My younger brother never crawled, he was a bum shuffler tho and was over 2 when he took his first steps. He was later diagnosed as dyspraxic.

I'm going through the same thing with my ds at the moment. He's 9 months and is cruising round the furniture, but hasn't crawled at all. If you lie him on the floor he will push himself up into a sitting position and if there is nothing close enough for him to pull himself up with, then he wails until you help him to stand up. Glad to know other mums have had the same thing, I was a bit worried that he should have crawled first.

DD never crawled, she did an army crawl. then walked, never ever bum shuffled or crawled.

Flllight I can really relate to the boredom thing.
DD could sit up quite early about 5mo but since then as you say has done precisely nothing else and she's 9mo now.
She bum shuffles just a little bit now but that's all. Everyone tells me I should be grateful, less work etc etc but I want to see some action!

DD never crawled. Walked at 13 months, so not fast...just cruised for yonks. She's 7 now and has no major problems with co-ordination. Though she did decide to give up ballet dancing at 4 as she had the grace of a fairy on a gob of lard. (Not that I said anything like to her or about her at the time but you can't delude yourself, just cos it's your own DC!).

I'm sure it's just an alternative way of development...no better, no worse than the crawlers in the world.

My daughter also never crawled when she was small. She was v nervous about walking so although she could actually do it from about ten months, she wouldn't do it without a lot of reassurance until about 13 months. Of course, two seconds (literally) after she learnt to walk properly, she realised she needed to be able to get to things to pull herself up and learnt to crawl. Awkward baby.

None of my siblings crawled, either.
