Baby grunting whilst on breast

Hi everyone! This is my first thread on mumsnet, I've always found it so useful and I am desperate for advice.
My 6 week old boy is exclusively breastfed and very oftenly grunts whilst feeding. It seems like he is pushing, sometimes unlatches and cries and goes back on. This is throughout the whole feed.

I have a fast flow and oversupply so we have started using Colief to help him with the pain, in case he is getting too much lactose from the foremilk. I am altering breasts at each feed to make sure he is getting hindmilk. We are only using Colief twice a day as we have noticed he is doing explosive poos after taking the drops, but seems happier after.
He had another grunting episode this morning at 4am whist feeding and doing some forceful farts. In the evenings he screams for long periods before he settles and is very hard to settle to sleep during the day(sleeps a total of 2-3 hours during day, night sleeps are okay)

A part of me just hopes this is a growth spurt but I'm just feeling like I am hurting him with my milk :(

I would appreciate some advise! Thank you all in advance!

Six week is hard as they have a growth spurt. I can remember feeding, feet up watching tv, all day at that age.

Sorry, posted too soon! I only had to do that for a day or two.

Are you getting any RL support for your fast letdown and has Tongue Tie been ruled out?

Hi @PritiPatelsMaker. I think he may be going through a growth spurt but not sure.. he has also been getting distracted whilst feeding and suddenly pulls away and looks at the wall behind me. I guess he is just discovering the world but the grunting has been going on for a while.

I have an appointment with a lactation consultant next week and hoping she can give advise as well. Tongue tie has been ruled out as it was checked at the hospital the day after he was born.

It's always worth getting it checked again, especially if they have symptoms. So many MNers have been told by HCPs that it's definitely not TT, only to discover later that their LO has one that's been affecting feeding all along Flowers

Try winding him. I have a 7 week old and whenever she starts fussing at the breast, I take her off until she burps then put her back on, it usually helps. Laid back breastfeeding helps if you have a fast let down and sometimes a wee bit of gentle pressure on their tummy helps them expel wind the other way too.
