Where did your newborn sleep in the first month or so?

Hello, please can you share where did your newborn sleep at the very start? Cot? Moses basket? Next to me cot? In your bed?

And how long for?

And were there any issues once they started being moved to a cot if they weren't in one to start with?

I'm struggling with the newborn stage 😩

In someone's arms (DH and I took shifts) in the sitting room for the first 6 months. Due to reflux. After that period of Hell, he slept beautifully wherever he was placed.

@Gardenoverflow ohh I'm sorry, that sounds so hard! 😔

Anywhere i could get him too...and it changed every single day! Sometimes the pram, our bed, next to me, car seat, rocker, in our arms!

I completely agree with safe sleeping guidelines but you also have to do what's best for you and your baby and your circumstances. Sleep deprivation is the worst so if the only way to get the baby to sleep is by pushing the pram around the house do it.

In a moses basket for us! We have a next to me but found our little boy didn’t like it i think it was just too big for him at first. He’s 8wk now and we moved him back into the next to me last week and so far it’s fine! But the moses was defo better at first - that’s when he did actually sleep (he doesn’t sleep now but more than he did in that first few weeks) Do whatever you can to get some sleep !

@USERT I never wanted to co-sleep and now the only place he wants to sleep is on the big bed 😩

@AmberM2022 i the first few days when he was still quite sleepy i guess, he slept in a carrycot and then started to hate it. Sometimes sleeps in his big cot but only during the day, never wants to stay there in the night. I was thinking whether he'd like a next to me cot as it would be close to me but who knows anymore, nothing makes sense!
Mine is 2weeks old

In my bed. Since birth.
11 weeks on I haven't managed to get her out.

She sleeps in her crib for naps, but refuses it at night.

BeanCounterBabe · 04/12/2022 14:31

In bed with me with DH on the spare bed for safety. Allowed me to lie down during the frequent feeds in the early days. Managed to get each of them into the crib overnight by about 3 months as my quality of sleep with a baby in the bed was very poor.

In her own cot bed from her first night home, with me in a bed just across the room. That was until 4 months then I moved back to our bedroom. Cubo AI camera on the cot, I have the monitor next to my pillow.

This thread has made he feel a little better. Mine is 8 weeks and he hated the moses basket. He would end up sleeping on his dads chest, I wouldn't get any sleep because I was so scared of him sleeping in bed with us.

He did start to settle a little in the basket during the day but has now gone back to sleeping In our bed. I just about get 4 hours sleep now

PritiPatelsMaker · 09/12/2022 07:45

DC1 in someone's arms or lying on lame like a PP said. DC2 was slightly easier in that they would sleep next to me in bed.

Srx1 · 23/12/2022 14:50

Mine is now 5 weeks and after a couple of days of sleeping in the cot he wanted to go back next to me on the bed and the last few days he only wants to sleep on me. I am hoping this is just the 4th trimester stuff where the just needs comfort..?
