Did your baby sigh in their sleep?

Hi all

I've noticed recently that my 3 month old sighs a lot in his sleep. I don't know if he's always done this or whether I've just noticed it all of a sudden but he takes a big breathe sighs and then pauses his breathing for a few seconds before starting again. Like I always do I spent hours googling this and drove myself mad.
Some websites say a sigh is a healthy sign whereas others say it's more common in SIDS babies and now I'm terrified.

Any experiences I'd really welcome.

Thanks

My son did this definitely for the first month where he’d stop breathing for up to 10 seconds at a time and then take a deep breath! Dr reassured it was normal but my drs surgery isn’t the best! He still does the odd one where he seems to just catch his breath so I have experienced it, Dr said it was normal but if you’re worried maybe mention it to GP/HV and have some reassurance x

@Sweetk0987poiu thanks for your reply so my LB is 4 months old now I think what you described is periodic breathing which is normal up to 6 months but this is specifically sighing like taking quick deep breaths in succession and a long exhale. I don't remember my daughter doing this at all. He does it when he's awake and asleep but more when he's asleep I'm just so worried something is wrong with his breathing :(

Oh I’ve not experienced that! Have you mentioned it to anybody? Might be worth taking a video if you haven’t already so you can show them x

I'm bumping this up again - and I'm going to try to catch and post a video!

@scrabbledabbl Did you ever get to the bottom of this?!

scrabbledabbl · 04/08/2023 22:41

@strandedhope unfortunately and absolutely not! He still does it and it still scares the S out of me!
