Cleaning a Pavlik harness (hip dysplasia)

My LO has been wearing a Pavlik harness for three weeks due to hip socket immaturity following him being breech in utero. The harness cannot be removed under any circumstances, so no baths or swimming. If it becomes soiled, it must be cleaned whilst on. That said, the harness is becoming extremely grubby, particularly the socks! Thankfully no bodily fluids have gotten on it (yet).

Advice from hospital is to try to scrub any dirty areas with a toothbrush, but I don't think this method is at all realistic. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions based on their own experience with a Pavlik harness?

My DD nearly 5 was in Pavlik from 2 weeks old and we could only sponge clean it. Are you due a check up anytime soon, when they adjust it for growth may be able to help or swap for new?

I think you have to grit your teeth and accept it. My LO had one and it was grim, he was in it during a heatwave so we didn't put clothes on him as the boots are warm and he had a problem with his stomach so was regularly sick. The professionals told us they don't change them over for a clean one even when they are as grim as ours was. It's horrible but it won't affect your LO and hopefully it won't be for too long. Good luck with the next check up and hope they can take it off so you can put this behind you.
