DD keeps repeating what one of us says

Hi,

My DD 6 has been displaying some repeating behaviour but only towards mainly his dad and to a lesser extent his mum, doesn't do it to grand parents or teachers or other members of the family.

If I say anything to him, doesn't matter if its hello, an instruction, joke etc... he'll repeat back what I said and say is that what you said, equally sometimes especially on a night or when he's tired he keeps asking me to repeat and if I don't get it 100% right what I said he goes into a melt down.

Overall he's a bit of a introvert, doesn't show any other behaviours that bring concerns, he's a bit defensive of his things and where he's left them but it's not excessive or of concern. He does focus on things and doesn't let them go for example he now knows smoking and he's constantly reporting back on who he's seen and when, when it's in films / TV and he raises it everytime asking if it's naughty, will they get poorly. Says the same script everytime he sees someone smoking.

We are getting quite concerned on the speech repeating especially as it's focused mainly on me the Dad.

Any advice ?
