Destroying me mentally. Baby won’t feed

Hi all, 3 month old LG has been a fussy feeder since around 7 weeks old.

She is FF and was on Aptamil to begin with but was always having diarrhoea, changed to Kendamil and nothing really improved, she perhaps took the bottle at bit better to begin with but she was having mucusy poos.

She is now on Neocate with suspected cows milk protein allergy, shes been on this one week and her poos , so far have been firmer / no mucus / very little.

However when feeding her she is very fussy. She will take an ounce then cry and I have to wait 15 mins or so to try again. I find I have to put her dummy in to settle, then sometimes she’ll cry for more milk and i’ll take it out and she’l have some more. She’ll cry at the bottle but then once it’s in , it’s like she wants it. She feeds better when she wakes in the night for her feed.

Lately I’ve noticed she wants her milk just before she has a nap or goes to bed.

I’m worried that this a bottle aversion or is this just my LG’s behaviour and she’s a fussy bottle feeder?

Sounds like it could be a bottle aversion, the tell tell give away is that she is fine overnight when sleepy, if it was pain, wind, discomfort etc it wouldn’t suddenly go away overnight. Have a look at Rowena Bennett’s book “Your baby’s bottle feeding aversion”. Absolutely saved the first 6 months of my daughters life.

What bottles are you using? Have you tried a different brand or a faster teat?

PritiPatelsMaker · 12/07/2022 20:52

I was going to say bottle aversion too.

@MotherOfDragon20 @PritiPatelsMaker Ive started reading Rowena’s book. I just feel absolutely awful if I have caused this :(

You definitely haven't caused this. I've got CMPA and it wasn't picked up for a long time.

You've done brilliantly to have spotted it so soon and for reaching out and getting the help she needs. You sound like a fabulous Mum.

Thank you so much @PritiPatelsMaker

She took her bottle well this morning, i waited 15 mins after bringing her downstairs. Got her permission that she wanted the bottle. No crying when she pulled off and only offered a couple of times after. She did 3.5 oz

She’s a small bub, she’s between the 9th and 25th centile so I dont think she really is a big eater.

I’m going to go forward with not pressuring and trusting her.

I think I was so caught up on her “having to finish a bottle” I was probably over feeding her at times :(
