Hi. I am really concerned about my baby's weight gain. He's four months old. Today at his weight check his weight dropped below 2 percentile. We have been asked to supplement with formula but he just doesn't take bottle after I breastfeed him. We have an appointment with GP to rule out any issues. Anyone with similar experiences and what helped eventually ? Just looking for some positive stories.

If you're BFing, please call one of the BFing Helplines tonight and ask for some support.

I think that you need to speak to a trained BFC and seek some RL support Flowers

Sorry I posted too soon.

Being on the 2nd centile isn't a problem in itself. Some children will naturally be at the top and some will be at the bottom. It's only a concern if they've dropped more than 2 centiles.

Even then, it's usually an issue with how the milk is being transferred rather than supply.

A BFC will be able to talk to you about things that might affect that transfer like tongue tie, positioning and latch and how feeding on a schedule can interfere with weight gain.

She will also be able to give you information on ways to increase weight gain, if that's needed.

Kellymom has some useful information on increasing weight gain here which might be useful.
