Hey all, I’m looking for some advice if possible?
My lovely DC (age 4) who has SEN, and possible other issues (awaiting com paediatrician appointment) has real issues with noise/sounds particularly high pitched noises.
He has terrible meltdowns due to noise & overstimulation, particularly if there is more than one sound happening at once. I have a 8 month old baby who is very needy and cries A LOT, and can be very loud when he’s screaming.
My DC can’t cope with the crying and gets extremely upset, and sometimes very aggressive. He will scream very loud push his ears with his palms and throw himself around, throwing anything he can see in his sight. He will go to his bedroom for a break from the noise and I try to get him to put ear defenders on but he doesn’t like them.
I have to keep my eyes on both the kids 24/7 because I’m worried my 4 year old will harm the baby (he is so sweet and lovely, but when he is overstimulated, he will get very aggressive).
I live in a flat where his bedroom is opposite my front room, so when he can still hear the noise he rips his duvet off, pulls all the items off his routine board on his door and piles all his toys and coats etc into a pile, sometimes he will bash his head and feet on the walls 😞 I live in a housing association home and I can’t afford to go private, so it’s not as simple for me to move to a house so he can be separated from the baby, noises etc 😞
Sorry for the long post, I’m just wondering if anyone has any advice for me on how I can deal with this, I hate seeing him so upset, I love my children with all my heart and I hate this situation we are faced with.
Thank you x
