Hi
So my 10 year old son was diagnosed with ASD at age 3 1/2. We have only recently told him about his diagnosis, we felt it was the right time as he is extremely anxious and unsettled at the moment. We have had to move schools a couple of months ago due to bullying. We are struggling massively with his anxiety and getting him in to the new school. We have tried our hardest to explain his autism but it's not enough....he said he needs to go further. I told him I would source some books . He is a pretty intelligent boy, very inquisitive with great reading skills. Hoping someone has some great recommendations for a very desperate Mummy 😥🙏🏼🤞🏻. Thanks

"Pretending to be Normal" (this book is really good), "all cats are on the autism spectrum" (this book is really cool), watch movies with ASD characters to understand that no matter how the world sees him he is still his own person and has nothing to be ashamed about.

Try posting in the SN section, you will get more advice there.

Agree with posting in the SN section.

I'd also look to see if there's a ASD support group near to you. The one near to us does social events for children with ASD and there's also a youth club for neuro diverse DC a short car trip away that's run by another charity.

Hi

I am a primary teacher and I have used this video clip with my class. Mostly, to encourage them to be a good friend and to be inclusive.

It is a really interesting watch and I think it portrays autism in a simple but lovely way.

@CP2701 hi thank you so much for your reply 🥰. The video you sent was the first thing we showed him, it satisfies hi, for a week or 2 but he said he needs to go further! My heart goes out to him he has had such a terrible time recently. We are in NI so he is due to sit AQE in November to determine whether he goes to a secondary or a grammar school. With lockdown....me having cancer and having to go through chemo etc, bullying in his previous school, change of school😥it's awful he has just completely lost the plot. He is such a bright and intelligent little bit but his maths has suffered and he has lost all confidence. The school are basically saying we are best looking at secondary,..but we want to try our hardest to get him into a grammar, we know deep down he is capable but he has just had so much to deal with, along with finding out about his diagnosis. So hard x
