17 weeks

MaeWest · 02/01/2008 20:50

For a few seconds at 5 months, confidently at 6 months.

lulumama · 02/01/2008 20:51

16 weeks for DS, 8 months for DD

TheMNPeacekeepingForce · 02/01/2008 21:03

Same as Maewest's dc. But I think that was slightly earlier than most in our postnatal group if I remember - think the average might be 7 months or so?

Remember though that these threads don't always get representative answers - usually either people's whose dc's are v early or v late at something I find.

Bodkin · 02/01/2008 21:20

My DD2 (who is, umm, 25 weeks I think) is still nowhere near. She's too busy thrashing her legs about and hurling herself backwards everytime I try to sit her up! She quite likes kneeling, leaning over the edge of her inflatable ring though, does that count

LIZS · 02/01/2008 21:21

ds just before 6 months , dd 4/5 months

Desiderata · 02/01/2008 21:23

I think the average is 6/7 months. My ds was approaching 7 months if memory serves me correctly ... which it rarely does.

lionbeast · 02/01/2008 21:41

come on dd your 6 months nearly there

Blueblob · 02/01/2008 21:41

First one 9 months, the second one 5 months.

LittleMissNorty · 02/01/2008 21:42

Confidentlt, 2 weeks ago, so 28 weeks ....about average from what I gather....

I think they say 4 months in all the books. Just so you go and buy more books on parenting, and sitting up and solids and rolling.

HappyBiglipsYear · 02/01/2008 21:47

8 m

Swedes2Turnips1 · 02/01/2008 21:47

big LOL at '17 weeks'

fortyplus · 02/01/2008 21:48

ds1 confidently by 5 months. ds2 nearly 7 months.

blueshoes · 02/01/2008 21:50

dd 7 months, ds 6 months

Niecie · 02/01/2008 21:56

DS1 was 5.5 months which is pretty average but DS2 was 3.5 months.

mummymagic · 02/01/2008 21:57

Well, mine didn't sit until she could crawl . She was 7 months, she crawled first and then decided to sit totally fine without support. She did the same thing with walking/standing at 13mths (ie didn't stand first).

Was v miffed not to get the bit where they sit and play while you sit on mumsnet/read magazines that my friends got for (what seemed like) months and months

yomellamoHelly · 02/01/2008 21:57

Ds2 is 12 months and still not sitting. Ds1 was 8 1/2 months.

meep · 02/01/2008 21:58

without support - 3 days ago

CarGirl · 02/01/2008 21:58

my 3rd was 11 months old before she could sit reliably independently! The others were average.

Phatmouse · 02/01/2008 21:58

Just before 5 months for my daughter, my son is due in 10 days and i'm not expecting the same from him as I am told this is early and 6-7 is about right.

Hulababy · 02/01/2008 22:34

Swedes2Turnips1 - why big lol at 17 weeks???

I know as it is in her memory book, which DD was looking at the other day with her nana. would 4 and a bit months be better?

IdrisTheDragon · 02/01/2008 22:35

DS was 7.5 months
DD was 6.5 months

StealthPolarBear · 02/01/2008 22:41

A few days after 6 months confidently (I was taking pistures with the camera but wouldn't have taken my eyes off him). He'd only started doing the wobbly gorilla sit about a week before then though.
