5 nearly 6 year old struggling to concentrate at school

My son is going to be 6 in April, he is in Year 1. I am being told that his behaviour at school is very disruptive, that he struggles to focus and often distracts other children by messing around. He has had a smiley face chart for two terms now and I have been in regular communication with his teacher, but it's not making a difference. I think he's so used to being told he is not doing the right thing that he doesn't even take in my reminders any more. I am starting to consider that this could be more than just cheekiness (possibly ADHD?), as the SENCo told me she would have expected improvement by now, but I have another meeting this week and I'm not sure if they will be looking to get him more help. My question at this point is if anyone has had children with similar issues and did you find something that helped them that we could try? I have read some stuff that says that reward charts are not always great and I'm conscious that I want to bring suggestions to the table, but my methods at home of lets do this homework and then we can do this fun thing or eat this nice thing, or lets make it a game, lets make it a bit fun, are difficult in a classroom setting when he cant have rewards that the other children aren't getting, and doesnt have 1 to 1 support. All ideas welcome! Thanks

Bump, op - how is your son now? Did he get diagnosed with anything?
