5.5 month baby not hitting milestones

Hi! My 5.5 month old can’t sit without assistance, she slumps forward until her face is on the ground. On her tummy she screams and moves her arms behind her shoulders, unable to push herself up. She’s a very happy baby otherwise, very sociable, feeds well and sleeps through the night.
I’ve arranged a doctor’s visit and the health visitor, just looking for similar babies!

Sitting at 5.5 months is pretty uncommon! My DD didn’t sit confidently until 9 months, your baby has plenty of time!

Same with tummy time, didn’t push up on her arms and didn’t roll until 8.5 months. I wouldn’t be concerned yet.

Where are you reading the milestones from @Mamabear1212?

Mamabear1212 · 10/01/2022 08:38

This made me feel much better thank you 🙏

I absolutely would not be expecting a five and a half month old to be sitting up by themselves.

Where are you reading that your baby should be? Baby center is a reliable source for milestones:

My DS hated tummy time, always threw his arms back and never pushed up or rolled over. He's absolutely fine, 2 years old and walked at 13 months. DD nearly 6 months can't sit unsupported but no need to be concerned yet

Thanks everyone. She was basically pretty floppy with barely any resistance - since I posted this she’s grown some more core strength! I was seeing babies half her age with more strength. I’d also seen a video on youtube with typical and atypical 4 month abilities, and she couldn’t do any! It’s funny how quickly they change.
Health visitor came today and confirmed what you’re all saying :)
