baby's room temp, is 15 degrees too low if really warmly wrapped up?

DS is 14 months, sleeps like a log. His room is about 15-16 degrees at night, he's in a warm sleeping bag, fleece snuggle and lots of blankets. I always had a warm bed but cold room as a child, but is it too extreme for him? I would rather it was around 18 but hard to get it to that..

DS is 11 months, his room is 17 at the mo but will drop to 15 overnight. He just has a pyjama top and a 2.5 tog sleeping bag, no fleece or blankets. I work on the assumption he'll complain if he's too cold!

My mum would laugh at the luxury of 15 degrees - my brother and I used to sleep in a freezy cold bedroom, it had coal fire in the daytime, nothing at night.
She told me we would wear two layers and a hat each, plus blankets.
We are both very healthy and my brother has had about four colds in his life, so it obviously toughened us up.

lol we used to be in bed for at least an hour before it warmed up and even then we darent stretch our legs to the cold part of the sheets!i always check if ds has a warm tummy,warm tummy warm baby

i still sleep curled in a ball to this day regardless of heat

We had no heating at all in our house growing up and one night I went to bed in PJs, socks, jumper, 2 x duvets, 2 x blankets, hat and hot water bottle and then because I wanted to read for a bit - ski gloves!! I frequently woke up with frosty eyelashes.

My LO's room is at 17 and then drops down at night and she's fine with 2 layers + 2.5 tog + 3 blankets and oil radiator on full (that gets it to 17 degrees!) and she's ok - warm bod when she wakes in the morning. Hattie2 - I am very envious of your little hot log of a baby!!!!

...it was an old house and the windows didn't fit very well. Always ice on the inside of them in the morning!

DS's room dips to 12 or 13 if it is really cold. If he sleeps don't worry. the cold will wake him.

We had no heating in the house either (except for one tiny electric fire) Our rooms were like fridges every night. Kids today have it so easy!

In answer to the OP our bedrooms are around the same temperature and babies are in sleepsuits, vests and sleeping bags. I wouldn't put extra blankets on unless the temperature really dropped

at all your well wrapped babies!

what about for littler babies? I know our room gets pretty cold and ds (8m) often wakes, I suspect with cold - but I've been scared to put a blanket over his growbag because of all the sIDS warnings that come on the blankets! Am I just being silly then?

Phd The ideal is just to use Grobags and no blankets but if you need to add a blanket for warmth then use the advice on putting your baby in the feet to foot position (although at your ds's age that could be trickier as he might wriggle around more!)

my DDs room is about that at the moment and she is just in sleepsuit and 2.5 tog bag...no vest. am worried she's too cold now.

Maybe with the cold snap I should add a vest?

When I was young we had no central heating and I would wake up with Jack Frost on the inside of the window panes. And it never did me any harm, etc etc. I am sure your DS is fine and toasty. If he feels too warm under all that then take off a layer.

I always think you should take into account what your child is like. My son refused to be wrapped up in a grobag or swaddled as a baby, and was a real cover-kicker-offer (!), so I didn't worry too much if his room was quite warm, say 20 degrees. If he had been happy to sleep all snuggled up, i would have lowered the temperature in his room.

15C is 3 blankets....

The most important thing is not the actual temp but that it doesn't fluctuate wildly.

15C - 3 blanktes
18C - 2 blankeets
21C - 1 blanket
24C - sheet only

When DCs were tiny and in grobags I used to put a blanket on top of the grobag if cold (they were both autumn/winter babies), but only up to the waist - seemed like a compromise between just grobag and keeping them warm! Was so paranoid about overheating esp with DC1.

Glad i found this thread, my ds' room is very cold on a night starts about 17-19 degrees drops to 14-15 degrees overnight. He sleeps in 2.5 tog grobag, l/s vest and pj's and i always panic about the temp in his room thinking he's too cold. It sounds like i have no need to worry

Hmm, this is kind of helpful - I am pretty sure ds is cold. Even back of his neck was cold last night. Will investigate l-s vests and blankets over growbags. Sadly I bought fleece sleepsuits from a MNer recently but they are too big...
