Help I can't get my hair twirling, tongue sucking, DS to stop these habits

Hi
My DS has sucked his tongue and played with his, mine, and DP hair since he was about 6 months old.
He is now almost 7 and no signs of him stopping.

I have tried constantly to get him to stop to no avail.
TBH I think he does both habits the most when he is tired, bored, or just resting.

Its really awful at times as sometimes he has even followed me around trying to twiddle with my hair.
He gets very upset if he is told off about it.
I am also worried that he will ruin the shape of his teeth if the tongue sucking
continues.

My dentist has said that it would be a good idea to get him out of the tongue sucking now his adult teeth are coming through.

I am concerned he will still be doing this once he starts the juniors next September in case he gets picked on for it.

Any ideas on how to get him out of these habits and does anybody's else's DC have any anoying habits.

Had 3 thumb suckers and gave the fourth a dummy. oldest sucks and twiddles her hair she is 11 next week and still does it when she is tired or watching tv, her teeth are perfect.

2nd sucking thumb and twiddles a pillowcase, she is 9 and up until last week had sucked her thumb she has jsut gotten braces not traintracks more like a gum sheild effect and is unable to suck her thumb. It has not bothered her one bit and I feel she deserves full credit for just getting on with it must be like giving up ciggies!!(orthodontist said her thumb sucking has nothing to do with the braces)

3rd is 3 sucking and twiddling hair as we speak have to cut her finger out of the hair sometimes!!

4th has her dummy and rubs the edge of her tshirt.

I was a finger sucker and eventually grew out of it about 12ish teeth fine!!

Hubby was thumb sucker till 14!!! teeth fine.

All my kids are happy contented so I don't worry about it too much as short of giving them all braces theres not much can be done!!

He will grow out of it....eventually!!
