6 year old son worried about what he looks like….

Hi everyone

Just looking for some advice and/or reassurance that this is not something to overly worry about.

My 6 year old son is suddenly very worried about how he looks. Mostly what he’s wearing. Every morning is hard work. Multiple changes. Tears. Cried that he looks stupid. Shorts are too short. Socks aren’t the exact same height. Tshirt doesn’t match trainers.

I buy him nice clothes, and let him close a lot of them. I never look at him and think his outfit is odd or poorly fitting.

I don’t know where it’s coming from. I do everything I can to instil confidence in him. I’ve explained the reasons why it doesn’t matter what he wears. I’ve told him he has so much more to offer.

What am I doing wrong? It breaks my heart that it is bothering him at such a young age. Not so long ago he’d grab whatever was closest and leave the house happy and confident.

Is this a phase? Will it pass?

Thanks

Hi,

I just posted something similar re my 7 years old, although this started at 6 and got worse. He gets incredibly frustrated with whatever he wears to school, unless it's something he has been able to choose completely himself , there's always tears and upset. I'm
Also hoping it's just a phase but the mornings are incredibly difficult!

Your not alone but I'm afraid I don't have many answers !

Thank you for your reply. It’s such a worry and although I’m not glad for you, it is good to know it’s not just my son. Does your DS worry about other things? Mine is generally happy go lucky, it just seems to be appearance Sad
