Am I holding my baby back?!

I worry a lot generally that maybe something will happen to my baby and a lot of this is to do with her eating.
She’s just 8 months and is still on homemade textured purées most of the time - she has broccoli, courgette, cauliflower finger food occasionally and sometimes a puff/melty stick. Also has weetabix/porridge/scrambled egg for breakfast. She had a finger of banana this morning but gagged a bit.
I don’t know how to progress her further with her eating as I’m so scared and anxious that she will choke.

Also - she is still in a sleepyhead - which is loves and I’m thinking of buying the bigger one - is there anything wrong with this?

There is a big difference between choking and gagging. The kind of diet you have her on is the kind of things that you would give a baby under 6 months when they used to wean early.

If the thought of choking is giving you anxiety, could you do a Baby First Aid Course or just read up on what to do?

What also is striking from your post is how limited her diet is, it seems to lack a lot of nutrients. This guide from the Caroline Walker Trust gives good information on what to give them at this age. Don't forget too that girls can have oily fish twice a week, three times for boys. Oily fish is important for their development.

Have you come across the MN Weaning Section yet? It's under "Feed the World".

I can't help you on the Sleepy Head though, sorry Smile

Just to add, there are some great recipes in the MN Weaning Recipes Section. I'd have a look through and try her with some different things and let her have a bit of fun Smile

@BunnyRuddington I don’t think it lacks nutrients at all, she eats salmon, lemon sole, tuna, minced beef, chicken, turkey, for veg she has spinach, kale, carrots, sweet potato, plantain, normal potato, peas, parsnips, cauliflower, sweetcorn, fruit she has apples, pears, papaya, mango, blueberries it’s endless the variety so really don’t think it lacks nutrients at all it’s just what she has is blended/mashed and I’m not sure how
To turn this into actual eating....

Sorry, I read this and thought it was all she was having.

If you just want advice on how to move onto unmashed, you could post in the Weaning Section?

Oh ok I didn’t even realise there was a weaning section. Oops! Thank you x
