6 month old only puts one foot flat/ leg straight

Hi, I’ve noticed my 6 month old will only put one foot flat on the floors /leg straight when supporting him to stand . The other foot he always is on tip toes / he bends that leg. I don’t think he’s always done it. Quite tricky to get hold of the hv at the minute but wondering if anyone else babies have done this or do I need to be concerned . Thank you

It might sound a bit OTT but I'd book a Doctors appointment for Monday.

It sounds as if he needs his hips checking by the GP rather than a HV Smile

Hiya, I’ve already got an appointment for Tuesday. He hasn’t always done this / used to put them both flat which is my main concern.

My first DS went through a stage like this. His left leg used to sort of dance around and go up on tip toe. He has an ultrasound to check for hip dysplasia but he was fine and he stopped doing it once he started cruising. I always suspected it was due to his slight torticollis and his preference for slightly holding his torso in a c-shape and therefore tilting his pelvis. Definitely important to get hips checked though to be sure.

Hi forever, thank you for your message that’s really reassuring. As he hasn’t always done it I am hoping it’s just a phase but really worried at the same time so definitely going to have it checked out. I also worry that since he hasn’t always done it if something that I’ve done or not noticed to cause it!

Think it’s hard not to compare as well as my older son never went on tiptoes/ always stood “properly “ straight away.

Oh lovely it won't be anything you've done! Hopefully just him being a bit silly Smile My DS was a tip toe walker for ages in the end but he's fine and a perfectly healthy 3 year old now. Weirdly my 6 month old is also sort of doing the same thing so might take him to GP just in case.

I’m not sure exactly what you mean but my DD used to stand like this whenever in a door bouncer or if I stood her up (she was about 6.5 months here).. but she’s 13 months now and has no issues. She was only doing it for a while but was standing properly by 7.5/8 months.

Hi Vicky, a little bit like your but his foot is right up high on a tip toe. That’s good news, fingers crossed he will grow out of it. Thanks!

I suggest asking your family doctor in case.

How did the appointment go OP?

Dani00 · 24/07/2021 10:33

Hey, we were referred by gp to physio , saw them and now awaiting hip scan and to see paediatric dr.

Hi! I know this post is a few months old but was there any issues with your little one? I have noticed my 7 month old doing the same. He does see a physio regularly and she hasnt said it's anything sinister but more reassurance is always welcome lol
