10 month old baby looks up and shakes head

Recently, my little girl has started to look right up at the ceiling with her eyes so I can see a lot of the whites of her eyes and shake her head from side to side in sort of like an 's' movement. She only does it for a few seconds and seems to be in control when she does it. It seems to be becoming more frequent over the last couple of days and is often when she is in her highchair.

I'm just wondering whether this is normal or whether it is something I should be concerned about? Could this be some sort of seizure or is it a normal developmental thing?

It doesn't sound typical of a seizure. Babys can do weird things like this and it's usually sensory exploration. However to be on the safe side I would try and get a video of it and speak to a GP x

My son did similar in terms of swaying, sounds developmental. But as always if you're concerned contact go

Hi @squashie34, appreciate this is an old post but wondering if you got any answers. My boy, 9 months, has been doing this in highchair daily for a few weeks and also in response to some types of music. Trying not to be concerned. Going to doc today.

@Lala2022 sorry I've done a name change since then but I am the OP.

All was fine, it was totally developmental and was apparently them getting used to how their neck feels on their head and that they can move it 😆

Thanks for the response! He has been doing it non stop this week and I have felt so uneasy. Ha. my doc thinks the same. Weird little things.

My baby has hit 9 months and is doing this regularly! It started in the high chair but she will now sometimes do it when sitting or even laying down she will move her head in an S like motion. I’ve just booked her a GP appointment to check it out as it’s definitely come on over the last couple of weeks and she is doing it more frequently. Got myself in a right spin. She is also cutting 3 teeth atm so I’m not sure if it is also linked to that and perhaps some form of self soothing.

@Merry14 yes mine just stopped doing it one day and did seem to be related to teething!
