Hi dear members of mumsnet community!
Im new to here.
Im a dad of 29 month lovely boy ,he is our first child.
He's not talking at the moment and im really worry for him.
Also his behaviour sometimes is hard ,he can have tantrums over nothing(which doesnt last long but)
Things he can do:
He understand most of the things we telling him.
He can point
He have good eye contact
he following 1-2 step instructions most of the time
His play with toys has liitle imaginative element :like feeding pretend food to toy animals, puting them to sleep, pretend talking toy phone.
He copies me and my wife actions like: using broom for cleaning, using vacuum, copiyng dance moves we showing him,
He love all our family members and especially kids in our family,he like to play chasing game
loves books and listening when we rad stories to him,
can point on most of the animals in book if you ask him
Physically he fine but sometimes can be clumsy

Things which worry me is:
No speech(only "mumumum" "papapa""Baa'" "p" "b" "wow" "c")
periodical no reason tantrums with a bit of agression towards me and my wife (which doesnt last long and can be solved )
sometimes when he very excited he tensing his arms in front of his chest
also he doing alot high pitched noises when he want our attention like showing us toy, or something on tv, or most of the time he see bird or other animal
he have no sense of danger too

we went to developmental peadetrician and he told us our boy has global developmental delay, but cant see any autistic traits in him.
we start speech terapy like year ago but no much change

Do you ladies and gents have kids with GDD? can you please share your stories of your non verbal toddlers?
Thank you

I am slightly confused, apart from the obvious speech delay, what other delays does he have? for him to have GDD? as you don't seem to have mentioned any other delays in your description.

Hi! Thanks for your reply.
Yes I should mention that during short test with development pedeatritian my son couldn’t open twisting lead on the bottle, couldn’t jump up properly ( he still learning how to jump) and he is not potty trained yet.

No reason tantrums and no speech etc do flag him as being on the spectrum.. Can you try another evaluation?

I'm no expert but just saying perhaps you should speak to a developmental pediatrician or even psychologist

If he's not taliking and doing high pitched squealing, were you referred fir a hearing test?

If he's not had one, and you're in the UK, you can self refer fir hearing tests in most areas.

Have you spoken to your SLT as well? If he's been having SLT since last year they should have a pretty good idea of what's going on.

Hi there, your little boy sounds exactly the same as our 27 month old. Our little boy I s making a very very small range of sounds, only uses the sound “ba” consistently for “bye” but otherwise has no words (including mummy or daddy, which is heartbreaking). He does not jump, and struggles a lot with fine motor (did not meet any of the milestones on the 27 month Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ).

We were previously refused an appointment with a paediatrician on the basis that it was not clear that the delay was significant enough, so don’t have a diagnosis of developmental delay but I am going to push for an appointment now.

His hearing has been tested and is fine.

My instinct is that it is not ASD given how sociable he is, but I don’t know what else it might be and whether he is likely to catch up and be able to go to mainstream school etc.

I would be really interested to hear any stories of parents in similar situations or who have been through something similar.

Thank you

Oh also we are starting private speech and languge therapy this week as the NHS waiting list in our area is 12 months!
