Baby holding toys to the side and dropping it

Hello mums. My baby is 7 months old and will often lift a toy in her hand ...holding her hand out to the side and then slowly drop it. She holds the toy out for a bit first, sometimes waves it around..before dropping it.

Ive never seen this before with other babies but heard of other babies throwing objects behind them etc. But anyone ever saw it done to the side?

Mine is over twice that age and yes she does it deliberately when seated in a high chair . Think it’s to try and get me to pick it up. Pretty sure she also did the same before she was crawling.

Mine threw everything off the highchair. That’s part of normal development, they listen to the toy make a sound against the floor. Mine found it very amusing, what makes you think other kids don’t do this?

Haha this is very very normal! They’re learning cause and effect. Side is easiest! 100% normal - and very good - behaviour!

It's quite normal, they all do it.

This is a good sign that your child is now using their 'executive function', pre-frontal cortex. They are figuring out spacial awareness. It can be annoying, when things break or they drop juice all over, however, I reminded myself that it means their development in the cognitive domain is happening.
