Hi just looking for some advice my little girl has been constipated on and off for about a year, we are sticking to a mainly wheat free diet and it has made so much difference, the problem is she is so use to standing and straining, she now won’t go on the toilet, she’s wee and pooing in her knickers any advice would be great

maybe go back to basics and put her in pullups for now
will she sit on the toilet at all ?
have you tried bribery, choc buttons, smarties even just to sit and not do anything. Blowing bubbles can help with constipation issues.
theres books as well - Poo goes to pooland is one
maybe contact ERIC (www.eric.org.uk/) they will have lots of ideas to help you and her

Thank you tried the bribery but will look into the books

I think the books will help but just talk to her matter of fact and take her to the toilet around the time she goes if she has a routine and stay with her for moral support...separately does she need any meds such as latulose? This must be so frustrating for you all x

She has lactose, I know constipation started this, I put her on the toilet and hold her hand, but she won’t even try , I’m on 4th pair of knickers already today as she just keeps doing little bits all day I see her trying to go but it’s to late. Just shouted at her and totally had a melt down, so that’s great I’m sure I have really helped the situation. I have herniated discs in my back so I’m in agony which is not the best thing to be dealing with, when I can’t bend or reach her to clean her properly 😤

Oh lovely I can only imagine how hard and frustrating this situation must be for you. I definitely think the pull ups in the short term are a good option just so you can just bin them. I’d maybe try to stay in for a few days and essentially go back to toilet training basics and just try and stay super positive. Start with the wees first as it’s easier, give her lots of juice / water to drink and just say you’re having a fun day in, carpet picnics, whatever all that jazz and say no pressure but you just want her to tell you before she needs to go for a wee etc then progress from there. I think if the situation doesn’t improve in a few weeks I’d see your gp for further advice. Good luck lovely x

Thanks for the advice I really needed it today Mixmag, haven’t been out of house for 6 months and I can barely move let alone sit on floor, but having read what you have said will go back to pull ups, I think it’s making me feel more useless than I already do, can’t Bath her etc, and this was one thing that was ok, so I just need to give in to pull ups and make it easy for myself, think feeling stressed about my situation is not helpful either, really thankful for all the advice lovely ladies, at a literally shit time

Bless you, happy to try and give some advice...look after yourself mama too, hope you’re under care for your back. Be kind to yourself xxx

as ^^Mixmag said
back into pullups which should ease the pressure around pooing
your not useless its just a minor blip which will get sorted in time
and if you can get her on the loo ,a bottle of bubbles to blow
