constant kicking/pushing feet, is this restless leg syndrome in a child?

My ds is 4, and drives us insane by pushing his feet hard into us over and over again when we sit next to him. He does it at night too, and has a couple of times woken up crying with sore legs, but it doesn't stop him falling asleep.

It is the daytime kicking that is causing the issue. I always just assumed it was behavioural, an annoying habit or he was bored but more and more it seems like he can't help it. He will apologise and yet keep doing it seconds later but can't explain why he does it. He also does it in the car, he is in a rear facing seat and will continuously kick and push his foot into the person sitting next to him.

This has been going on for a long time now and the older he gets the more it seems like a restless compulsion than a deliberate thing. Has anyone got experience of this?

I realise this is old I just found it but our 3yr old is exactly the same. Came out kicking like a frog and constantly needs to push with his legs. He pushes us off sofas, tries to force us to the end of the bed at Storytime. He’s what I’d describe as an Active child, doesn’t need much sleep at all much to our exhaustion. He’s pretty physical. But developmentally doung just fine. Not behind in anything really except perhaps emotional regulation. From a very early age people used to comment on how “alert” he seemed. Did the pushing go away in the end?
