What can a baby normally do at 10 months?

Just had an afternoon with my ds and a friend with dd similar age. My friend's daughter is crawling, climbing stairs, saying clearly defined syllables; she puts small objects into containers, feeds herself, waves goodbye... my ds doesn't want to crawl at all, only says vowels (sings them most of the time really) and is mostly preoccupied by chewing objects. He is 3 weeks younger and quite a lot taller. Is it just that he is putting the energy into growing and not in a hurry for the rest? or is he really a slow developer? What do other babies do at 10 months - examples anyone? I'm not really worried, as I do think he'll get his act together eventually, but well... mildly perplexed.

Actually I now think that I had misunderstood ds and what I interpreted as being very grumpy during mealtimes was actually him wanting to feed himself. Solved it today with lots of sticks of steamed carrot - we alternated him nibbling and me feeding him spoonfulls, which seemed to make him happier. Mashing the carrot into his highchair was a real plus too. So maybe I need to be more encouraging about his desires to grow up (deep down in side I might well be a wee bit pleased about him staying a baby as long as possible ).

i get confused with mine. its hard to remember what ds was doing at that age. i know that he never crawled and didnt walk until he was 18mnths but it seems like hes been talking forever! when he was 18mnths i could have a full conversation with him and to me that was completely normal. dd (9 mnths) doesnt make many sounds really, she blows raspberries and does "fishy"...has just started to wave bye bye and she doesnt crawl properly...just kind of pulls herself around by her arms...(she's fast though!) she does feed herself pretty well and she throws excellent tantrums!!

marsup just to echo what others say, they do vary.
My DS2 was walking at 10 months, so yes, he was up the stairs, also fed himself finger food (I just got fed up of spooning it in when he got to about 8 months!)...
He doesn't talk particularly well tho even now (18mo).
DS1 meanwhile was not even crawling at 10mo. He walked at 16mo. Not all babies crawl anyway, so there's no developmental age for it.
DD was crawling at 9mo, and was a very good, early, clear speaker.
Your ds may well not crawl at all. I wouldn't worry a bit.
