Hi Everyone,

I am a very anxious person by nature, but would like some advice about my DD please and any updates on what other peoples 12 month olds are doing.

What my DD can do:

  • Walks in dependently
-Crawls upstairs
  • Points, Waves, Claps, shows me things
  • Has fairly good understanding and can follow basic instructions such as, 'go get your doll', 'let's go in the bath' Wheres mammy/daddy etc'
  • Feeds herself finger foods and attempts to use a spoon herself. She isn't the best eater but will try new things.
  • Responds to her name most of the time.
  • She has feed a doll a couple of times and hugs her cuddly toys.
  • Has two bottom teeth and is cutting her 2 top teeth

Things she can't do/ things that i think seem strange:

  • She can't shake her head no/yes
  • She babbles, but is quite quiet.
  • No words
  • She flaps and opens/closes her hands a lot
  • Shakes her head quite a bit too.

Her older brother who is 4.5years has been referred to early intervention team, due to concerns around anxiety and delay in back and forth conversation (nursery mentioned maybe autism). As a result i am worrying about DD and if the flapping and no words means something is going on with her. HV came out for 12 month assessment but didn't stay long and i didn't feel i could talk to her.

Does she sound on track? What are your LO's doing at 12 motnhs?

xx

Pointing, clapping and showing are big indicators she is NOT autistic.
No words at 12 months (or even 18 months) is fine - understanding/receptive language is much more important and it sounds like she's on track to me..but you know best as her mother and I think if you feel uneasy you should seek opinion.. but honestly she sounds totally fine to me!!

Ditto what the previous poster said. From your description of her, she is showing no signs of autism at 12M...

Sounds absolutely fine.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the reply. I think i worry mainly because of the flapping and because of the lack of words. She was babbling but over the last few days she has barely babbled at all. I also got her some shoes today as she is now walking well and she was crying when i put them on. She just wanted them off. I'm just so worried.
