DD has had a dummy since birth, she's now 2.5 She strictly ONLY has it at night, and now seems a good time to remove it altogether, but theres a problem. DD has had breathing problems since about 14 months, primarily a night time cough that would get so bad she would vomit or stop breathing. Diagnosis is likely Asthma (not confirmed due to her age) and she is on medication which has helped a lot. With the dummy she can now settle down at 7.30pm and get a full 12 hours straight, however without the dummy, i can get her settled, but she will wake after a few hours, and become very stressed. The stress and crying seems to trigger the cough, and within 30 mins shes struggling to breathe. The dummy instantly calms her and shes fine within a few mins, so (not wanting her to suffer obviously) we give it to her. How am i ever going to take it away completely when it seems to affect her so much? Im getting worried about her teeth and she's clearly mature enough to self-soothe to sleep, but we can't stop using it!? she has a favourite blanket, and her favoirite soft toy but neither calms her in the way the dummy does.
