Translation of jibberish?

So my 27 month old is only speaking jibberish. My dad recently told me that I was the same for ages and my older sister was the only one who was able to translate and understand me lol. Has anyone else ever heard of this before?

And it would be nice to hear stories of other kids or adults who jibber jabbered for ages then suddenly spoke

Do they have good understanding? Could they point various objects and body parts etc out? Follow a 2 step command? What about social skills? Playing imaginative and social games like tea parties/caring for dolls etc? Interested in other kids. My LO is a similar age and does have plenty of words but still talks quite unclearly and was slow to take off with her speech despite having great receptive language. Some of her words only I'd know and sound literally nothing like they should eg she says milk and it sounds like 'quatz' I'm not too worried though. She's clearly a very smart cookie. Her speech has become a lot clearer since starting playschool. I think interacting lots with other toddlers means she has to make herself understood and is a bit of a kickstarter. If your LO otherwise seems on target and your gut instinct is that they're ok then I wouldn't worry too much. Chances are it'll come at its own pace. If you're at all concerned I'd talk to your HV x

I'm not worried about anything other than speech

He understands fine and can follow instructions. He's a very happy bubbly cheerful boy and my only issue is speech

I wouldn't be too worried then. If still no better by 2.5 then I'd involve SLY but a LOT can happen in that time

Yes! I don't know what your's is like atm but mine just suddenly starts doing things one day. Eg she had no interest in rote learning to count to 10 etc until a couple of weeks ago when she just started counting actual objects out and counting one by one as she walked down the stairs. My friend's little one didn't say a word until one day he just opened his mouth and was literally conversational. You just don't know and as frustrating as it is there's a reason speech therapists etc insist on the watch and wait approach. It's because in the majority of cases the children catch up with no input. They just need time. X
