My little boy is 3 and a half and absolutely HATES wearing any clothing which has buttons on, or is jeans.
My partner and I have been continually battling with each other. I say let him wear what he thinks is comfy, and my partner wants to break this habit/fear.

Every single morning the first thing he says when he wakes up is “is it a jean day?”. I’ve never know someone to get so upset over clothing, and can’t see any reason which would have caused this fear.

These are the only sensory issues he has, he’s fine with loud sounds, speech is very good, etc.

What would you do? It’s becoming increasingly difficult to not find clothing with buttons on, particularly now he’s getting bigger. The jeans cause a melt down, and chinos are a no go for him to!

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure what to do but I'd think that forcing him to wear what he's afraid of will just make him worse and your relationship with him worse. I guess invest in sweatpants for a while? :) Does have a problem with buttons on shirts? Or anyone else wearing jeans?

Just don't make him wear jeans then. They're totally impractical when they're running around and climbing all day anyway as they're so restrictive. Jogging bottoms are surely just fine and there's surely plenty available in the shops? My 9 and 11 year old nieces still don't like wearing things like that and favour leggings or dresses. Not sure what the issue is. It's probably not exactly a fear but more him quite rightly wanting to wear what enables him to live his best life toddlering Smile
