Why baby randomly stops breathing while sleeping, followed by deep quick breaths

I usually track my baby's respiratory behavior while he sleeps from the rise and fall of his shirt at the chest
Sometimes it seems he stops breathing , followed by a quick gasps of breath few seconds later.
Is this some abnormality

BTW my baby is 7 days old

If you're concerned about this you should really see your GP. If you can obtain video footage of him for them then that'd be really helpful. Nobody on here can really offer medical advice based on a few words. He needs a thorough assessment by a medical professional. If in any doubt do it sooner rather than later xx
