My 13 month old is very vocal generally. But her reaction to any ongoing loud noises is to make even louder noise. So when she’s in nursery and it gets louder or other babies are crying, her response is to shout louder / make louder noises. I notice she’s done it a few times too when she hears someone getting irate about something. Or if someone visits and they are telling me what’s upsetting them at the moment in front of her. Maybe she doesn’t like the tension? Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal? She’s done it now for as long as she’s been vocal.

I would have imagined that this is quite typical, and potentially developmentally positive, i.e. they are imitating/reciprocating - just the other day I was in one of those baby/toddler groups with around five 2 year olds and all of a sudden when one of them made a high pitch scream all the other toddlers took turns to also do their high pitch scream, always a little louder than the previous child :D
