What age were your DC confident on a bike WITH stabilisers?

DS nearly 3 1/2 is not confident on his bike at all, can barely pedal or steer. I remember getting my stabilisers off before my fourth birthday so this seems unusual to me but I had older siblings whereas DS is the oldest. Sometimes it takes a while to even persuade him to try something as he doesn’t have older siblings to copy. Will he catch up?

yes, he definitely will catch up. It takes some children longer to learn to ride a bike than others x

Thanks sleep I’m sure you’re right!

Could the bike be too heavy for him? Lots of kids bikes are very heavy for small children and very difficult for them to master. He might be better off with a balance bike and then skip the stabilisers altogether. We did this with DS1 and he was riding without stabilisers just after his fourth birthday.

Oh I hadn’t thought of that furrygiraffe thank you! I was gonna ask about the balance bike as I’ve heard from a couple of people that they’re better for learning how to cycle. He’s a generally cautious child so I just assumed it was that but it could be the bike’s too heavy, it is a bit of a bulky looking thing.
