18 month old not wanting to join in at childminders

My 18 month old has been going to a really good childminders since September and we thought everything was going ok until recently. He gets dropped off by my DM as I go to work earlier than the drop off time and he just doesn’t seem to want to engage with anyone and will stay sat on a sofa and will get upset if another child goes near. He gets upset when that say no to another child, probably thinking it’s aimed at him when it’s not. They do try to get him to engage but it’s like he just doesn’t want to know. He does seem to ‘perk up’ in the afternoon.

I’m at a bit of a loss as to how to help with this as he goes to a play group once a week - my DM has him 2 days a week He’s at the child minders 2 days a week. The one day he is with me I take him to a play centre and I try to play with him as much as I can. I work full time hours over 4 days so weekends can get hectic as even though me and DH share all the parenting roles, and we’d rather spend more time with DS, we still need to get stuff done around the home.

How is he when he's with other children when he's with you or DM?
