I don’t know how to deal with my 5 year old

The last month has been awful.

She’s always been prone to tantrums and being highly strung but the last month or so is off the charts.

She’s rude and talks back constantly if I give out. If I discipline her (no tv, sending to room) she’ll look at me and just say ‘no’. When I carry through she’ll scream the house down for 10 minutes (which terrifies her 2 year old sister) and then forget about it.

She’s gotten more impulsive and shoved paper into her ear and ended up in A&E yesterday, today she ran into the road. She’ll wail that she’s sorry over and over.

She has this kind of manic energy about her and is constantly jumping around.

Last week she had a tantrum (crying & wailing) in a shop because I wouldn’t buy her socks - she’s never done that before.

She’s great at school and has lots of friends.

DH and I both get time alone with her and she’s usually great one on one. She does love her sister and gets on great with her.

Anyone any ideas on how to handle this? I feel like constantly punishing her is making it worse!
