DD wont use toilet at nursery

My 3 year old DD has recently moved up a group at nursery. In the room she was in before there were child sized toilets and she was fine using them. In her new room there are adult sized toilets and she is scared to sit on them. In addition, the lights in the toilets are on a motion sensor so it's dark when you first go in, which scares her. There is a potty available for the children to use but I've seen it full of wee on occasions so they aren't always emptying it after each use which I'm unhappy about. I've therefore brought in my DDs own potty from home, but other children have been using it, which upsets her. I'm worried all this will set her back with her toilet training and she'll hold in her wees and either wet herself or get a bladder infection. Any advice as to what to do please? Thank you.

Honestly this all sounds quite bad on the part of the nursery. :(

Does she use the full size loo at home?

The full potty sounds absolutely WRONG either way and I would be making an appointment urgently with the manager of the nursery to discuss DD's issues here...which are understandable!

Is there any chance of going to a different nursery?

Hi Fortunes thank you for your reply. I did put in a complaint to the nursery manager about the full potty. She said it was unacceptable and that she would speak to the staff about it. I think I will follow your advice and make an appointment with the manager to discuss the issues.

It does sound badly organised at the nursery- I would expect child sized toilets in preschool room.
We had similar issues and at one point I did consider going back to nappies at nursery as I got worried about infection too and the staff did not know how else to encourage toilet use. I brought the same toilet seat that the child used at home so it was all familiar, at drop off and pick up we went to use the toilet while I was there, and eventually it worked, but only after one or two episodes when the child wet himself (he was changed, was not told off or anything like that but it did not feel very nice for him). Hope your dd will get there soon, it is very stressful for everyone.

Thank you di your reply. I'm really surprised too they don't have child sized toilets too. I remember even at primary school using child sized loos! I'm happy for now that my DD is using her own potty at nursery. Also the staff seem to be taking hygiene more seriously following my complaint to the manager.
