Funnily enough, my DD has never done this - it does seem to be a boy thing.

Completely normal. In fact my dd has said that she would like to put chilli powder in cruella devilles eyes (she's 3 btw too).

op - what about yoga to help calm him and get him to reflect on cause and effect? it might help with confidence and help him to deal with anger issues.

OMG - thank you pruners for posting this.
My ds (4.3) has started with this and it is so upsetting to hear isn't it?
But yes, steppping back and thinking about it I suppoe it's better that he's verbalising his emotions.
Must re-read 'how to...' to remind myself how to deal with it.
I flit between 'don't say that, it's a really horrible thing to say ' (wrong approach!) to ' ooh you're very angry about that aren't you...etc. (textbook answer).
Poor ds doesn't know where he is.
I tend to change my response according to where I am , which isn't good. If I'm surrounded by people who I think expect me to take a hard line approach then I do. Must stop, must stop.
