Has my 7 year old got ADD or is just this age for forgetting things

Hi

My DD I still 7 1/2 and since school went back the forgetfulness and lack of concentration has kicked in. Some days she’s forgot to pick up the water bottle other days it’s books. She is easily distracted if in a group, for example a group of kids were getting taught in a certain activity (outside school) and she was half listening, would rather watch the other stuff that was going on around her. This is not all the time as she can concentrate when she wants to. She’s great on one to one too. School work used to be pretty good but seems to be going backwards (I feel), last teacher reported that she is where she should be for her age, however needs to concentrate more. At home she will jump from one activity to the next but again not all the time, she can sit and do one task. She will sit and do homework when asked. She doesn’t have a certain group of friends, she just likes to play with every kid rather than stick to one or a certain group.

Sounds fairly normal to me. DS2 (8) struggles to remember what he had for lunch sometimes! Water bottles and books are easily forgotten. Probably also tired from return to school and the excitement of seeing friends again.

I hope you're worrying over nothing.

Thanks Bluechampagne. Spoke to a colleague at work today and he said his ds always forgets things.

Today (2nd day in a row) she hasnt took the teachers instructions and write down whats on the board into the homework book. Its driving me nuts.

Frustrating if she's not paying attention in class. Can you discuss strategies with the teacher? Another thought: have you had her eyes tested recently?

Going to see her teacher next week. She can read no probs even from a far distance, but will get this done anyway. Think its mainly the distractions around her. Spoke to a friend and they said their child is just the same, not taking in instructions. This am i asked dd to get dressed and she did no probs, even made her bed without being asked today.
