DD 5 very clingy to mum - is this normal?

My DD is nearly 6 and has always shown a strong preference for me (mum). But she doesn't seem to be getting less clingy. She insists on sitting next to me/being with me all the time. She got very upset yesterday because we weren't "twins" as we had different colour ice lollies.

I do very much encourage 1-2-1 for DD and and DH and DH is a very hands on parent. DD is happy to go on playdates etc on her own but otherwise likes to be with me all the time. Drop off time at school is OK but has to be managed carefully or else there are tears.

Today both Dc have been promised a big treat from their grandparents which includes a day out / lots of spoiling etc. But DD is fretting because I am not going too. I expect when it's time to go she will be in tears and not want to go.

Sorry for the long preamble. My Q is are 5/6 year olds usually like this?? I have DS who is a year older who also went through a mum-only stage but it went a long time ago and his affections are quite solidly split between me and DH.
