What do you do when your child is in an angry, irrational, "I hate you!" mood?

DD1 (6) is in a terrible mood today and nothing I'm doing is working to get her to calm down.

I've tried gentle warnings, firmer warnings, counting while breathing, giving her time to play by herself in her room (this usually works), sat her on the sofa beside me till she was calm (which is when she told me she hates me), and have just now had to carry her upstairs for a time out.

It's hot, she's not sleeping well, I'm sick, and her little sisters don't want to play the games she wants.

I need some ideas before we both lose it.

I have a 6 year old teenager as well! I can’t offer advice though because I have no idea what I’m doing either 😂 sometimes it works to talk to her other times I just have to let her get on with it and I just say I’m here when ya need me! Xx

I send her off to stroke the dog and talk to her for a few minutes which usually calms her down out of it. Dog's quite happy with this arrangement too.

That's a great idea, thanks! She loves the cat. I'll try that next time.
