DD frightened in other people's houses

DD is nearly 6 months old. I am concerned that every time we go to a strange place, or someone else's house (on average, once or twice a week) she becomes really distraught, even when cuddled by me or DH. She really only seems comfortable in our house, or in places where she is very comfortable. I know that a certain amount of separation anxiety is normal at this age, but has anyone encountered their baby being frightened of unfamiliar places even when in their parents' arms? How can I help her to build up her confidence? Is this just a stage that will pass?

Oh yes, DD did that. I just put her in a sling so she felt protected and she was happy then. She got over it in a couple of weeks anyway.

I have no idea - my 4.5 month old DD does the same! I hope it's not related to her starting with a childminder.....!

Both my dss were utterly traumatised by going to new places. Ds1, now 5 has pretty much grown out of it, although is still shy and clingy to begin with. Ds2, now 3 still gets scared/shy/clingy and cries when he sees new people. I do think it is just a phase, perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

Just try to keep calm yourself and don't draw attention to her anxiety, cuddle her but try to keep another conversation going.
