What age did your child dress himself/herself?

DS is three. He can put his wellies on but not his shoes (tbf they are a big difficult). He can go to the loo and tuck his shirt back in but can't put his trousers on in the morning (puts two legs in one!) Jumpers and tshirts are OK, but shirts with buttons, forget it.

Just wondering whether he should be doing more by now. So, what age did your child dress himself/herself?

How close to 4?
Are the trousers skinny jeans with a buckle or more elasticated joggers? Are his shoes Velcro or high tops? P

My children could get in and out of uniform (sweatshirt, polo, velcro shoes, elasticated trousers ) when they started school at 4 but couldn't do/undo polo buttons until the hole had been loosened with use.

Dd was constantly dressing up so was under 2 when she could dress herself. Ds1 started practicing getting into clothes after he was potty trained at 2y2m. He wore pretty loose clothes so could do it a few months later. (Not buttons or zips though) Ds2 had no interest in dressing himself until he discovered dressing up at nursery so was over 3 but mastered the basics by the time he was potty trained. At nursery they actually did dressing practice in preparation for school.

3y3m. Been toilet trained for a long time now so can get his elasticated trousers and underwear up and down with ease but can't seem to get them on from scratch.

I have a 2 year old and a 3 year old and neither of them are anywhere near being able to dress themselves despite my best efforts on a daily basis!

I think I am going to have to make a concerted effort because nursery tells me they expect him to change his shoes into plimsolls - I think getting the gym shoes on is OK but not back into shoes - by Easter!

His nursery seem to be very strict about these things

mine was nearly dressing himself by 4.4 (except socks and buttons). he is 5.9 now and I'm still having trouble finding PE shoes he can put on independently!

I got these starpatch. They have velcro and seem to open up wider than the others I saw.

About 4 years old. (Before that she could only do the very easy things with help but wouldn't really do them herself, I would still be dressing her). Now she still can't really do buttons (they have to be really big big ones for her to be able to do them) poppers she can do a lot of the time depending on where they are. Sometimes can't tell if she's putting clothes on the right way. (She's 4.5).

So she still has my help

Does anyone have any tips on how to transition from the nursery way of putting a coat on (upside down and over the head) to doing it themselves? That's the other sticking point. Wish they had never taught them the upside down way!
