10 month old doesn't wave or eat finger foods

I have been told bebies should eat finger foods and wave goodbye by seven months. My LO is ten MO. Doesn't pick up food or wave. Just examines food and crumbles it. He is standing without support and laughing, though. Is there an issue with his brain development?

Babies develop at different speeds, some learn things like waving (or standing) sooner than others.

A 10 month baby not waving in itself does not necessarily mean that there’s something wrong with brain development.

If you’re worried about your baby’s development, then it’s worthwhile asking your Health Visitor about it. If your baby is 10 months old he’s probably due a developmental checkup soon anyway. DS3 was 10 months old when he had his last routine development review, and the whole point of that was for the Health Visitor to assess whether his development was normal for his age. And they see loads of babies, so are in a good position to say whether there’s a potential issue or not with a particular baby.
