6 month old hates tummy time and won't roll

Hi - I'm getting increasingly concerned that my 6 month old DD hates being on her tummy and won't push herself up on her arms when she is on her belly to play independently. Lots of children at her classes either her age or younger just seem so much more advanced and playing on their fronts.. even pulling themselves forward.

As time goes on I'm getting more worried she is falling behind her milestones in physical development.

She has also yet to roll from back to front.. although she can get from front to back.. that's how much she hates being on her tummy!

Any reassurance or advise is much appreciated! x

My DD did not do this at 6 months. She did not pull herself forward either. If you are worried you can see a Health Visitor but I would not be unduly worried at 6 months. There is lots of hand/eye stimulation she can get with sitting with you or on her back. Some children barely crawl at all. She does not need to be on her tummy to play or learn. You can read to her, play games and play with toys when she is held by you and when she sits up there will be more variation.

My DS only rolled at 7 months and as he turned 8 months it was still extremely laboured and difficult for him. He had almost no tummy time at all until her turned 8 months - he had really bad reflux and stomach problems before then and would SCREAM when placed on his tummy. However, when he turned 8 months he started tummy time and with days he was rolling better and within 10 days of this he sat unaided for the first time. I know it’s worrying, but it’s probably no real cause for concern yet. My DS is 11 months now and crawling around brilliantly!

Sorry, just to add that my DS never pushed up onto his arms and when he started crawling it was commando style. However, he’s got good strength all round and the health visitor has no concerns about his development. I notice him pushing up a bit more on his arms now, but he doesn’t do it very often. I don’t think there is any cause for this just the fact that he doesn’t feel the need to do it as he gets around so well on his tummy.

My DS hated tummy time and didn't really do much until he was 8 months when he liked to sit up. He didn't start crawling until he was 11months which I thought was just brilliant because I had him at work with me! 6 months is still very young. All babies develop at a different rate. Mine is running around mental at nearly two and we can't go anywhere!!
